Ceiling Lamp / Chandelier, Mazzega, Murano Glass and Metal, 60's-70's – Italy Magnificent ceiling lamp or chandelier made by Mazzega. The piece is composed of a chain from which a metal structure with a gold finish hangs and Murano glass leaves that can be separated individually. Each glass leaf is exceptionally detailed; on the inside they have a rough finish - this creates a visual illusion, as they seem frozen due to their frost-like texture -, on the outside the finish is smooth, this interplay of textures creates a pleasing lighting effect. The composition of the leaves is closed, giving a compact and elegant appearance to the piece. About the "Granigliato" Technique The frosted effect of the glass leaves is achieved with the granigliato technique, which consists of applying small fragments of glass (graniglia) to hot glass, in this way, the small fragments adhere to the surface. When the piece is reheated, it creates the rough effect seen on the leaves of the chandelier. Another way to make granigliato is by using a fine metal mesh, which is sprayed with glass, creating glass particles that adhere to the piece, creating the frosted effect.
