This teapot catches the eye. Not the brilliance of the iron red, nor even the delicacy of the gold. It is the scene itself, hand-painted with a precision and sensibility that are truly authentic. Three geishas walk through a winter landscape, between a blossoming plum tree and snow-covered pines, in that suspended atmosphere characteristic of Japanese prints from the Meiji era. The porcelain is fine, almost translucent under light. The fern leaf spout, the angular handle with sharp edges, the lid with a varnished red knob, all contribute to a silhouette of understated elegance. The iron red enamel, called aka-e, frames the scene and enhances the gold highlights with a mastery characteristic of late 19th-century Kutani workshops. Height approximately 13 cm. Underneath the base, the painter's signature in two Japanese kanji attests to the artisanal and attributed nature of the piece. The interior features an integrated porcelain filter, evidence of an object designed to be used as much as admired. A few slight traces of use on the interior, consistent with the age of the piece. Exterior in very good condition, decor intact, with no chips or cracks observed. Placed on a side table, a shelf, or in a display cabinet, it asserts its presence with the discretion of beautiful objects.
