A finely painted round antique porcelain plaque depicting a beautiful dark-haired woman, set in the lid of a round bronze dore box. Bronze dore is also known as gilt bronze or ormolu and is basically a bronze box plated with a metal alloy coating to imitate gold. The plaque plate shown in my photos is the actual item you will receive. Please read the "Age and Condition" and "Approximate Dimensions" sections below.
The plaque is very well painted (it is 100% hand painted) by a very skilled artist, although I find no evidence of an artist's signature on this plaque. The subject is wearing a beautiful pleated dress with turned up collar and looking straight ahead. This portrait is painted after an original painting by Italian-born Parisian artist Angelo Asti (1847-1903) and titled "Reveuse. The portrait is very lifelike and simply stunning!
This piece has been in my personal collection since 1998. If I had to guess, I would say that this plaque was probably made by one of the Hutschenreuther companies.
