Signed and dated lower right: Kees Zwart '87
Kees Zwart studied at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague from 1947 to 1954, where he was trained by prominent names such as Piet Zwart, Paul Schuitema, Gerard Kiljan, and Gerrit Rietveld. He was a co-founder of the Photography department at Academie St. Joost in Breda.
This photograph shows an imposing stack of compressed bales of waste paper, captured with a keen sense of composition and texture.
Zwart treats the industrial subject as an almost abstract tapestry of material and light, an approach that reflects his background in graphic design and his training within the Dutch design tradition.
The work is in good condition and is offered in an oak Barth frame with a passe-partout. The frame itself has some minor damage.
