Superb oil on canvas by Kazuko Toyokawa (1919–1997), a Japanese artist who settled in France in 1974. Trained in Japan and later a student of the painter Yves Brayer in Paris, she participated in several salons and exhibitions in France during the 1970s and 1980s. A solo exhibition of her work was notably held at the Galerie Chardin (Paris) in 1983.
This important composition depicts a female nude in a studio interior. The brushwork is free and expressive, the subtle palette blending greens, blues, ochres, and pinks in an intimate and luminous atmosphere. The large format gives it a remarkable presence and makes this work a true collector's item as well as a decorative piece.
The painting is signed “K. Toyokawa” and dated June 6, 1981, on the back of the canvas, as evidenced by the photographs.
