The Siesta 62 lounge chair with matching ottoman is one of the most exceptional German lounge designs of the 1960s. Designed by Jacques Brule for the renowned Kaufeld Möbelwerkstätten, the armchair combines a powerful, almost sculptural design language with impressive seating comfort.
The widely flared, elegantly curved armrests, the generously proportioned seat, and the distinctly backward-sloping backrest give the Siesta 62 its unmistakable silhouette. From a side perspective in particular, the consistent lines of the design are evident: the dynamically rising back section and the flowing transition into the body make the armchair appear exceptionally elegant despite its impressive dimensions.
Both the armchair and ottoman stand on a characteristic four-spoke swivel base made of chromed metal. The filigree-looking frames create an exciting contrast to the voluminous, comfort-oriented upholstered body and emphasize the typical Mid-Century Modern character of the design.
This piece has been completely reupholstered by a specialized upholsterer and professionally covered with a high-quality anthracite fabric. The finely structured fabric harmonizes perfectly with the sculptural form of the armchair and gives the Siesta 62 a modern, understatedly elegant appeal. The new upholstery offers exceptionally high seating comfort and makes the armchair appear almost like a newly manufactured piece of furniture. The chromed swivel bases are also well-preserved and show only slight age-appropriate traces.
Kaufeld – German Upholstered Furniture Culture at the Highest Level
Kaufeld Möbelwerkstätten was founded in 1918 and developed into a renowned German manufacturer of high-quality seating and upholstered furniture. Especially in the post-war period and during the 1950s and 1960s, Kaufeld stood for elaborately manufactured armchairs and lounge furniture with high quality standards. In the 1960s, Kaufeld armchairs were even supplied to the Federal Chancellery.
The Siesta 62 is an excellent example of this uncompromising combination of design, craftsmanship, and comfort. With this model, Jacques Brule created a design whose dimensions and striking angles are still impressive today – a characteristic that is particularly emphasized in documented comparative examples.
In its fully reupholstered version with anthracite fabric, this Kaufeld Siesta 62 with ottoman appears surprisingly contemporary. An exceptional original of German Mid-Century design and an impressive statement piece for modern living spaces, lofts, villas, or sophisticated interior projects.
A rare 1960s design classic – professionally restored, virtually new, and ready for the next decades.
