This Kastrup Airport wall lamp is an exceptional example of Danish functionalist lighting. Originally designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen for Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport in the mid-1930s and produced by Louis Poulsen, Lauritzen's lighting was intended to be an integral part of the architectural space, prioritizing bright, comfortable illumination. This principle is clearly reflected in this robust, beautifully crafted lamp.
The design features a wide, concave, painted metal reflector combined with a white opal glass diffuser, providing soft, glare-free light suitable for both public and residential interiors. Its generous proportions and minimalist design are characteristic of early Danish modern lighting: timeless, functional, and refined.
This rare lamp, originating from a significant chapter in Scandinavian design history, combines architectural heritage with everyday functionality, making it a striking addition to any design collection. It comes with partially original installation instructions (see photo).
The lamp offered is the medium-sized "Kastrup" lamp. Note the light signs of wear on the metal reflector.
