Jules Moigniez was a French animal sculptor, born on May 28, 1835 in Senlis and died on May 29, 1894 in Saint-Martin-du-Tertre. His father was a metal gilder. Moigniez was a pupil of Paul Comolera (1818-1897), a great sculptor specializing in birds. Like his master, he was also known for his animalist sculptures of birds, dogs and horses, the latter being the rarest.
His works were exhibited at the Salon from 1859 to 1892, where he received an honorable mention in his first year, and at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1878, contributing to his reputation in France, England and the United States in the 19th century.
