Product description
Exceptionally large and heavy vintage glass bowl by Josef Hospodka for Chřibská, Czechoslovakia, from the 1960s.
The sculptural bowl is made of solid Bohemian art glass with intense cranberry or raspberry pink, encased in clear glass. Particularly characteristic is the free-form, strongly curved silhouette with widely extended glass sections and a massive transparent base.
Due to the varying glass thicknesses, the color effect changes from strong pink to transparent rosé depending on the viewing angle and incidence of light. With a diameter of approximately 35 cm and a weight of about 4 kg, the bowl has an exceptionally monumental presence.
Josef Hospodka was one of the significant designers of Czechoslovak post-war glass production and worked closely with the traditional Chřibská glassworks. His organically shaped designs made of solid, colored cased glass are now among the characteristic examples of Bohemian Art Glass of the 1960s. Hospodka was chief designer for Borské Sklo and Chřibská from 1958 to 1970.
