Beautiful and rare set of two Josef Hoffmann Kubus 2 seaters, dating from the late 80s / early 90s. A fantastic execution of the iconic Kubus design, fully upholstered in thick black leather of very nice quality. The leather has a beautiful natural grain and has only become more beautiful over the years. The sofas are particularly heavy and solidly built, with a solid wooden construction and beautiful upholstery. The characteristic square tufting continues all around the seat, backrest, armrests and exterior. Finished with black wooden legs and the distinctive silver-colored hemispherical ends. Both sofas are in a very nice original vintage condition. Of course, there are light signs of wear appropriate for a set over 30 years old, but it is precisely the original leather that gives them enormous character. It is especially rare to find two identical pieces as a matching pair. An impressive set that comes into its own both freestanding and facing each other. The set has been assessed by an independent specialist in 20th-century design from ValueMyStuff. In the appraisal report, the sofas are identified as Josef Hoffmann for Wittmann Kubus and described as original pieces from the 80s/90s. The Wittmann labels are no longer present; presumably, the undercloth was replaced in the past. The original leather is still present. Appraisal report available for inspection.
