Product description
This is the rare Johnson Wax desk, model 617, designed in 1936 by Frank Lloyd Wright for the administrative offices of the Johnson Wax headquarters in Racine (Wisconsin, USA). This model was manufactured by Cassina, Italy, who received the exclusive rights to produce the original furniture designs from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in 1985. In 1992, a maximum of 500 tables were produced in black; this model is one of the rare variants. The desk impresses with its sculptural appearance: the generous elliptical table top is complemented by an attached second level, which serves as a storage surface for documents or as a decorative structure. The construction is made of black lacquered wood and metal, combined with brass details. The side curves and functional elements are characteristic - a semi-circular container with two drawers on the right and a removable wastepaper basket elegantly suspended in the metal structure on the left. The filigree struts emphasize the architectural character of the design, which follows Wright's clear lines and organic design language. Particularly noteworthy is the signature on the underside with the Cassina label, Wright's signature and the no. 319, which confirms the authenticity of this piece of furniture. This desk is one of the most exclusive design classics in the Cassina range. Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the most influential architects and designers of the 20th century, whose furniture designs are closely associated with his architecture. The Johnson Wax desk was developed as part of an overall concept for one of his most iconic buildings and is considered a manifestation of his organic design philosophy. Cassina's re-editions are no longer available today, increasing demand on the collectors' market. Pieces with a documented serial number, such as this example no. 319, are particularly sought-after as they demonstrate the link between Wright's vision and Cassina's high-quality craftsmanship. The collector's value is correspondingly high, both for lovers of Wright and for connoisseurs of important 20th century design classics. Dimensions: L214 x W96 x H99 cm

The desk is in good vintage condition with a few slight signs of use, such as small scratches and minimal paint imperfections on the metal parts. All parts, including the top and wastepaper basket, are complete. The patina lends the piece authenticity, but does not affect its function or aesthetic effect.
