A small work by the important 20th-century printmaker Johnny Friedlaender, born Gotthard Joachim Friedlaender (1912-1992). A representative of the New School of Paris, he contributed to the rise of original printmaking among young painters in the 1950s, thanks to the L'Ermitage printmaking workshop he opened in Paris in 1949, frequented by numerous international artists such as Brigitte Coudrain, Zao Wou-Ki, Arthur-Luiz Piza, and Maria-Helena Vieira Da Silva.
This small etching on Arches paper, titled "Maternity," was published by Editions Galerie R.G. Michel (Paris) in 1955, in an edition of 300 signed and unnumbered prints.
