Product description
Large lithograph, numbered by the artist in pencil on 80 copies and signed. Measures 63 x 80 cm. In perfect condition, preserved only lying down in chest of drawers. Joan Gardy Artigas is a Spanish surrealist, second-generation ceramicist and an embracer of modernism in his artworks. He was a friend and close collaborator of Joan Miró. He was a colleague of Alberto Giacometti, and also collaborated with Georges Braque and Marc Chagall. Joan Gardy Artigas is known for creating 7,200 tiles of the "Miró Wall," a ceramic mural with surrealist figures and creatures designed by Miró for the Wilhelm Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen, Germany. He is also known for his "Gaudi covering with tiles," part of the artwork "Woman and Bird," a 22-meter-high sculpture designed by Miró and located in the Parc Joan Miró in Barcelona, Spain (see photo). His large ceramic murals and sculptures have been distributed around the world, including Harvard University, UNESCO (Paris), Fondation Maeght (St. Paul), the 1970 World's Fair in Osaka, Barcelona Airport, the Kunsthaus in Zurich, IBM's headquarters (Barcelona) and a 60-meter (200-foot) ceramic mural for the Palais des Expositions et des Congres de Madrid. Joan Gardy Artigas has exhibited in many European, Japanese and American galleries and museums, including the Meadows Museum of Spanish Art at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, the Hispanic Institute in New York and the well-known Galerie Lelong in Paris. A major retrospective of his work in all media was held in Barcelona in 1996 and a major exhibition documenting Miró's collaboration with Josep Llorens Artigas (his father, Picasso and Miró's favorite ceramicist) and Joan Gardy Artigas was held at the Fundació Pilar I Joan Miró in Palma de Mallorca in 1998.
