Jef Diederen (1920-2009) was a Dutch painter and graphic artist. He was one of the Amsterdam Limburgers, the designation of a group of Limburg artists who studied at the Rijksacademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam during the war. Other members of this group included Ger Lataster, Pieter Defesche and Lei Molin.
In his younger years, Diederen mainly drew and painted landscapes from his native South Limburg. Then he developed further in an abstract direction. His work can be labeled as lyrical-abstract and, despite the strong colors, has a friendly and soft appearance.
Diederen is one of the most prominent graphic artists from after World War II. His work often expresses his social commitment, but just as often they are homages to his jazz heroes, favorite artists or he was inspired by texts of befriended poets such as Lucebert and Bert Schierbeek.
