A sculptural art glass ashtray from the renowned Škrdlovice glassworks in what was then Czechoslovakia, designed by Jaroslav Beránek. Model No. 5637 belongs to the "Andromeda" series and dates from 1956. The heavy, free-form glass body is characterized by its dynamically curved silhouette and deep, visually fluid structures. The combination of clear glass and cool blue to violet tones causes the object to change its appearance depending on the light and viewing angle, resulting in an almost fluid, sculptural look. A characteristic example of experimental Czechoslovakian studio glass from the post-war period, it is also a decorative collector's item that, in addition to its original function as an ashtray, can be used as a vide poche (paper basket) or small art glass bowl.
