Japanese Ogi-gama Design Vase – With Base Mark – Phoenix & Kirin – 21.5 cm
Description: For sale is a rare and highly decorative Japanese porcelain vase from the renowned Ogi kiln (Ogi-gama). The vase is distinguished by its unusual square shape and the combination of two classic designs.
Front: Magnificent, colorful Kakiemon design featuring a phoenix (Hō-ō) on a flowering branch.
Sides: Traditional underglaze blue with a depiction of a kirin (Qilin) amidst floral patterns.
Base: The vase bears the original Ogi kiln (Ogi-gama) manufacturer's mark on the base.
Dimensions: Height 21.5 cm | Width 10.8 cm | Depth 8.0 cm
Condition: Very good and well-maintained. No chips, no cracks. The gold rim at the top opening shows charming, age-related wear (abrasion). I marked this as discoloration under "signs of use," even though it isn't discoloration, but "abrasion" wasn't an option. It's particularly noteworthy that the inside of the vase is pristine and unused, with no watermarks or limescale deposits.
The porcelain itself is flawless, and the colors are fresh and vibrant. The slight abrasion on the gold rim is the only sign of age.
An exquisite piece for connoisseurs of high-quality 20th-century Japanese ceramics.
