The Japanese MIWA Torii 017 is a handcrafted wooden torii gate designed for special locations with architectural merit.
It consists not only of a single shrine gate, but also of a powerful central torii and two flanking wing torii.
Together, they create a deliberately designed sequence of spaces that marks a transition between indoors and outdoors, between built space and landscape, and between movement and contemplation.
With its generous overall width of approximately 6.30 m and subtly graduated heights, the MIWA Torii appears open, serene, and yet clearly defined. It invites without dominating and defines a space without closing it off.
This gate is particularly well-suited for expansive gardens, grand entrances, parks, hotel complexes, or cultural venues that require a lasting architectural presence.
The central torii has a total height of approximately 268 cm. The height to the bottom edge of the roof beam is approximately 220 cm, the passage height is approximately 198 cm, and the clear opening is around 178 cm. The posts are 12 x 12 cm thick, ensuring a clean, stable appearance.
The two side gates each have a total height of approximately 190 cm, a clear opening height of approximately 150 cm, and a clear opening of approximately 163 cm. The posts here are 10 x 10 cm thick.
All dimensions can be customized upon request. Minor variations are a testament to genuine handcraftsmanship.
Each MIWA gate is traditionally handcrafted in our workshop in Germany. We use solid, carefully selected wood, which is precisely worked, finely sanded, primed, and coated with seven layers of lacquer.
This results in high weather resistance and a smooth, silky surface. The construction adheres to sound structural principles.
The gate is self-supporting; the fastenings serve solely to prevent tipping and ensure long-term durability.
The MIWA Torii is manufactured in traditional Japanese red as standard. Black, gray, anthracite, or custom colors are available as options.
Special colors are available for an additional charge. Each structure is custom-made for its specific location and the customer's requirements. It is not a mass-produced or stock item.
The MIWA Torii is delivered ready for assembly. Upon request, we can also handle the complete on-site installation and advise on optimal placement.
For outdoor use, we offer solutions with H-beams in concrete foundations or on foundation slabs.
Indoors, the structure can be installed freestanding on base plates or bolted to the ground.
For waterfront and shoreline areas, special solutions with particularly durable woods or stainless steel anchors are available.
All systems are technically sophisticated and designed for long-term stability.
A torii traditionally marks the transition from the everyday to the extraordinary. The MIWA Torii 017 expands this concept into an architectural structure that creates spaces between spaces and defines pathways between places.
It exudes tranquility, clarity, and permanence. Every curve, every joint, and every layer of lacquer adheres to this principle. The result is not merely a decorative object, but a constructed transition imbued with cultural depth.
For over 20 years, we at Asia Art Factory / TORII WERK have been crafting Japanese torii gates with meticulous precision. We guide our clients from the initial concept to installation and, upon request, also assist with foundation and construction planning.
Our torii gates grace gardens, parks, hotels, temples, and Japanese cultural events throughout Europe. In addition to sales, we also offer rentals for events, exhibitions, and film productions.
