Slender and refined, this antique fan box attests to the taste for Japanese-inspired objects that captivated European interiors during the first half of the 20th century. Its decoration, delicately painted on a lacquered brown background, depicts birds soaring among flowering branches, bamboo, and an elegant pavilion, in a composition imbued with poetry and serenity. Its long and shallow silhouette was ideal for holding a folding fan, but today it can find a new life as a box for jewelry, letters, accessories, or precious objects. Placed on a dresser, a vanity table, or in a bookcase, it immediately adds a touch of Asian elegance and the discreet charm of antique objects. Time has left an authentic patina, visible on the edges and corners, where some chips and wear to the lacquer are apparent.
