Large collectible ceramic mug (pitcher, vase, or decorative object...) from the 1960s, signed by the Italian ceramist Luigi Santi (1907-1981).
Zoomorphic decoration, a representation of his famous stylized cat with geometric lines, the artist's most sought-after motif. The central medallion is created using the sgraffito technique (incisions) and cloisonné enamel in vibrant colors (red, yellow, blue) with a slight relief. A typical and appealing contrast is created between the glossy enamel decoration and handle and the raw, "Fat Lava" body of the piece.
A little about the artist: Trained at the Faenza school, Luigi Santi (1907-1981) is a leading figure in Italian mid-century design. His workshop in Cattolica produced pieces that are now prized for their graphic modernity. Very good condition
