Iridescent gourd-shaped vase by Alphonse Cythère, from Rambervilliers, Vosges.
This is an Art Deco vase, circa 1920.
As a ceramic engineer, he developed a metallic glaze known as "Rambervilliers flamed stoneware," during this period of renewed innovation in techniques.
This vase has shimmering reflections that change depending on the light and surrounding tones. To give you a better idea, I photographed it in different frames and lighting conditions.
Typical of its era, it is surprisingly modern and would be a perfect fit for vintage or decidedly contemporary interiors.
It is authentic, of course, and is signed on the base (see photo 10).
It measures 26 cm in height, 14 cm at its widest point, and the opening is 4 cm in diameter.
It is in excellent condition, with no dents, cracks, or chips, and virtually no signs of handling despite being over a century old.
This beautiful piece weighs 1.1 kg, whereas much smaller pieces, between 10 and 16 cm in height, are sometimes found.
