This tealight holder is made in the traditional Sasak pottery style. Sasak is the ethnic name for the majority of the population of Lombok, Indonesia. For generations, Sasak artisans on the island of Lombok have been making handmade pottery, and this ceramics represents one of the oldest artisan traditions of Indonesia. The clay used for Sasak pottery comes from the hills above three major villages where the pottery is made. After the pots are formed, they are fired in simple outdoor kilns fueled by wood straw and rice husks, giving each piece its own unique firing marks.
This specific piece of pottery can be used as a tealight holder or an incense burner. The floral decorations on the top are not evenly distributed, making it a unique handmade item!
