Description
Ilmari Lappalainen was a Finnish designer and interior architect. He studied interior design at the Finnish Institute of Applied Arts in Helsinki. After graduating in 1947, he worked for the Finnish furniture manufacturer ASKO, where he remained until his retirement. Among his most famous designs are the "Laila Chair" from 1948 and the "Pulkka" chair from 1963, offered here. This sleek design impresses with its timeless aesthetic and ergonomic comfort. Today, it is considered an icon of mid-century design.
In addition to his work as a furniture designer, Lappalainen was also active as an interior architect. His most prestigious projects include the luxury Rusa Hotel and the GUM department store in Moscow.
