The IKEA PS Jonsberg vase is an absolute design icon from the Netherlands, designed in 2005 by the internationally acclaimed designer Hella Jongerius for the exclusive IKEA PS collection. With the IKEA PS Jonsberg vase, Jongerius explored how the soul and traces of artisanal craftsmanship could be translated into an industrial mass-produced item. This specific example — the “Asia” variant — is finished in a soft, high-gloss powder pink base shade and adorned with a rich, detailed gold print of botanical blossoms and leafy branches.
The design deliberately breaks with the laws of mass production by using high-quality ceramic techniques. The vase features a monumental, recognizable bulbous shape that tapers into a sleek neck. The contrast between the minimalist porcelain and the glossy, metallic gold layer gives the object an eclectic and layered appearance. The Jonsberg series has been out of production for years now and has achieved true cult status among design enthusiasts; the design has even been included in the permanent collections of leading museums, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
