Product description
Bernard-Albin Gras, a French engineer and designer, revolutionized the world of lighting in 1921 with his famous Gras Lamp. Designed for workshops, design offices, and industrial environments, it is remarkable for its lack of screws and welds, favoring articulated arms and simple yet ergonomic ball joints. Its robustness and functional elegance quickly won over Le Corbusier—he chose it to light his office and recommended it for his projects. In 1927, the patent was transferred to the Ravel Clamart company, which became the main manufacturer of Gras lamps, bearing the Ravel Clamart brand. Among the most iconic models are the 201 (a clamp lamp), the 205 (a portable lamp with a triangular pyramidal base), the 206 (an oak-based version), and the 210/207, as well as wall lamps such as the 222 and 304. These pieces embody the elegance of industrial design from the 1920s and 30s. Today, these lamps are iconic objects of French design, prized by collectors and reissued by DCW éditions since 2008—a testament to their timelessness and enduring aesthetic influence.
