Icon Christ Pantocrator 18 x 22 cm and 22 mm thick. Very beautifully finished faceplate (riza), 950 silver content and plated with 24-carat gold. This icon weighs 720 grams. Christ is depicted frontally as Pantocrator (Παντοκράτωρ, All-Ruler), holding an open Gospel book in his left hand. With his right hand, he makes a blessing or admonishing gesture. This is also called the gesture of the Teacher. In the halo around the head are the letters Ο Ω Ν ("the Being" or "He Who Is"), referring to the proper name by which God revealed Himself to Moses in the burning bush (Exodus 3:14). The abbreviations ΙHC and XPC are also located in the upper corners. The monogram IHC represents the first three letters of Jesus in capital Greek (ΙΗΣΟΥΣ): Iota, Eta, and Sigma. In the other corner stands XPC, a Greek monogram that also refers to the name Jesus. The depiction of the Pantocrator is very popular; it appears in the central dome of almost all Eastern Orthodox churches and in the iconostasis walls of these churches.
