Hemp string & teak wood table lamp by Ib Fabiansen for Fog & Mørup, Denmark, 1950s. This exceptionally rare table lamp is a beautiful example of early Scandinavian design, combining natural materials with a highly sculptural and innovative form. Often mistaken for a design by the German manufacturer Temde Leuchten, this model is by Ib Fabiansen, distinguished by the specific thickness and type of hemp string used in his work.
The shade is wrapped in its original hemp string, which remains in very good condition, with the entire surface beautifully preserved. As expected with this delicate material, there are some minor signs of age that only add to its authentic character. A particularly rare detail is the original acrylic disc at the top of the shade, a component that is almost always missing. The lamp also retains its original pull cord. The shade is attached to a striking T-shaped teak base, while the wooden arm continues in a beautiful curve over the shade, creating an extraordinary sense of flow and balance.
A stunning and highly sculptural design, this lamp perfectly captures the warmth and elegance of 1950s Danish modernism. With its rare survival, unique construction and distinctive presence, it is a remarkable collector’s piece.
