Resin-bonded molded marble head sculpture of the boxer Satyros of Elis, made in the 20th Century. The sculpture shows some imperfections due to age, as shown in the images. Diameter 19 cm, Base Diameter 13 cm, Height 27 cm. Satyros of Elis was a historical figure from ancient Greece, known primarily for his victories in the Olympic Games. Satyros was a successful boxer, winning two Olympic titles; he triumphed at the ancient Olympics in 332 BC and 328 BC. He was the son of Lysianax of Elis. In addition to his Olympic victories, Satyros also achieved success in the Nemean Games, the Pythian Games, and the Amphiaraic Games. A statue of Satyros, sculpted by Silanion of Athens, once existed. A bronze head of a boxer found in Olympia, dating from between 330 and 320 BC, is thought to belong to the statue of the boxer Satyros of Elis. This bronze head is currently preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. In summary, Satyros of Elis was a renowned boxer of ancient Greece, whose victories in the Olympic Games and artistic depictions attest to his importance in the world of ancient sport.
