Ystad-Metall Candlestick – Wrought Iron & Amber Glass, Sweden 1960s
An original piece of Swedish Modernism, marked “Ystad-Metall – Made in Sweden” (stamped on the base). Black lacquered, hand-forged iron, four conical candle plates, and four inset glass elements in warm amber. In candlelight, the glass panes glow from within – precisely the design's purpose.
Ystad-Metall is one of the most important Swedish metal workshops of the post-war period; the characteristic iron and glass candlesticks of this era are attributed to the house designer Gunnar Ander. The graphic, almost constructivist silhouette on the tripod base makes the piece a sculpture even when unlit.
