Vintage tile tableau 'Birds' by Greta De Cuyper from the 1960s. Beautiful item, no serial work, very decorative. Greta De Cuyper is the daughter of the famous Mechelen sculptor Herman De Cuyper. She was born in 1942 and grew up in an artsy family of eight children. After her technical vocational training in urban education in Mechelen, her father De Cuyper allowed her to study at the day class at the Antwerp Academy. She opted for the ceramics specialty. Her most important teachers there were Marc Macken and Olivier Strebelle. After a three-year training and receiving the Mistler Prize (1962), she continued to work at home under her father. Initially, Greta specialized in the manual manufacture of refined glazed pots and bas-reliefs. In addition, she began to produce small ceramic sculptures. In her hometown of Itegem, she integrated into the local art scene and became a member of the Hnita association. In the nineties of the last century she again took lessons at the academy for visual arts in Anderlecht with Roland Monteyne and Arnold De Cock to learn bronze casting according to the lost wax technique. She has won several awards for her work. This bas-relief consists of several parts ("tiles") that were put together after being fired. Signed, in beautiful condition, only a small piece of a toe is missing.
