This sauce boat is an exceptional table piece. The shape is imposing and very elaborate: a boat-shaped body with two opposing pouring spouts, a deeply scalloped edge with very pronounced waves, a ring foot, and an integrated oval scalloped underplate. The earthenware is white, luminous, and of impeccable quality. The Campanula decoration is applied in dark green on a white background by transferware: foliage scrolls, rococo scrolls, and small campanula flowers run in a continuous frieze along the edge of the sauce boat and the underplate. The design is dense, precise, and exhibits great refinement in its execution. The most remarkable detail is the dog-shaped handle molded in relief on the body. This type of figurative handle, rare and sought after, is characteristic of bourgeois dinner services from the late 19th century, when manufacturers vied for inventiveness to differentiate their products. The dog, a symbol of fidelity, was a popular motif for hunting tables and quality country interiors. The piece comes from the Grand et Millet manufactory, whose crowned escutcheon mark with fleurs-de-lys appears on the reverse, along with the name of the decoration. The sauce boat measures 11 cm in height, the stand 25 cm in length. The piece dates from the late 19th century, circa . Good overall condition. Some signs of use and light glaze crazing normal for its age. Decoration intact.
