Born in 1962 in Gutu District. Died in 2001
Gladman Zinyeka was born in the Gutu District and was separated from his parents during the liberation struggle. Gladman settled in Harare in 1983 and began sculpting in 1985. His role model was Samson Kuvhengurwa, whose highly innovative work made a deep impression on him. Gladman depicted the daily lives of the people he knew. He sharply expressed the suffering of the poor and the unemployed. "I stand for the poor! I am lucky because I can scream through the stone!" He worked primarily in Springstone, using raw sections of the stone and various textures with great effect. He also created some striking works in Opal stone and other materials. Gladman's sudden death in 2001 was a sad loss for the art community in Zimbabwe.
