Portrait of Giraffe 'Kalahari'
Kalahari refers to the desert of the same name in Africa.
I was watching a documentary on National Geographic TV and this giraffe walked past and looked right into the living room.
At that moment, I was drinking Rooibos Kalahari tea and decided to paint him. The black border around the canvas is meant to represent the imaginary frame of a 1950s television.

Positivity, colors, and freedom to roam. The use of color is an important part of her artistic vocabulary: 'Colors make people happy, and I want to bring joy and positivity into the world.' Her palette can represent an animal's natural environment, hunting, or an emotion, depending on what she wants to communicate. And however subdued it may be, the background is part of it. She uses peculiar small shapes of color to 'fill' her animals. 'These represent imaginary continents,' she explains, 'and can represent the areas where the animal belongs, or where it wants to be. In my artistic world, anything is possible. My animals can roam freely.'
