Original copperplate engraving by Giò Pomodoro (1930-2002), an undisputed master of 20th-century sculpture and a leading figure in Italian Sign Abstraction.
In this graphic work, the artist transfers to paper his renowned research into "surfaces in tension" and the symbolism of the cosmos. The theme of the Sun, a cornerstone of his mature work, is explored here through a perfect balance between geometric rigor and material force, typical of his poetics that blends ancient myth with modernity. The work is a refined combination of etching (for the precision of the line) and aquatint (for the depth of the red grain), giving the work an almost sculptural appearance.
The sheet is in excellent condition, with white, intact paper, free of foxing or defects, maintaining the brilliance of the blood-red pigment intact.
