Underneath the base, a single word printed: Germany. Without "Made in" — this marking, imposed by the 1891 American export law, precisely dates the piece: between 1891 and 1914, during the golden age of German decorative ceramics. This fine earthenware Tabaktopf features a raised slip decoration on a deep cobalt blue ground: a continuous hunting scene runs around the entire circumference of the pot — leaping hounds, game at bay, flowering trees with laden branches. The relief is precise, the details are meticulous, and the composition is dynamic. The lid, with a sculpted flower knob, continues the same decorative vocabulary with a floral frieze on a cobalt ground. The interior is cream-beige glazed, clean and without visible flaws. The mold number "54" is engraved under the base alongside the Germany marking.
