High quality cushion cabinet from the province of Gelderland.
You can see that Gelderland by the shape of the hood; that sloping shelf with that beautiful carving with two putti
( angels) and floral acanthus motifs under the cornice is Gelderland.
Beautifully and artfully executed stitch work of high quality.
In Dutch Renaissance style.
The Italian Renaissance begins three centuries earlier in the 15th century.
In Holland among the elite around 1580 - 1600.
At the time this cabinet was made - around 1650 - Holland had become the richest country in the world.
This was due to the then unique and inventive economic distribution key.
So inventive that in Amsterdam came the first stock exchange where shares were traded.
Where everywhere else the money went to king, nobility and church in the first place, here the money went to entrepreneurs and traders. The Netherlands was then also a republic.
From them much money flowed to middle class, artists and artisans.
Above Amsterdam in De Zaan appeared the first industrial park in the world , large-scale with hundreds of windmills as engines.
Where wood was cut en masse, oil was pressed, paint and hundreds of fabrics and products were made that were sold on from there to inland countries such as Germany and France.
We see that wealth reflected here in this cabinet.
It was also very expensive to have such furniture made back then.
People affirmed their status in costly homes, household goods, jewelry and clothing.
Nowhere were so many pieces of high-end furniture made as in Holland at that time.
Beautiful deep cushions with precious framed wood.
The cabinet stands tall on three black spherical legs with elegant arches between them making it look elegant rather than heavy.
Beautiful alternation of light oak and black wood.
Symmetrical and balanced.
Above these spherical legs run the stiles with panels and inlaid wood which reinforces the symmetry.
Also inside this furniture is beautifully finished with thin quarter sawn oak.
Very neat and shiny in the wax.
The lock is original and works and the key is still with it.
