Product description
Gabriele Mucchi was an Italian painter, graphic artist and architect. The artist is considered a co-founder of "New Realism" (Nuovo Realismo), whose works are exhibited in numerous renowned museums.
Gabriele Mucchi studied architecture at the University of Bologna and graduated in 1923. He then worked as an architect for various offices in Milan and Rome. In the 1930s, Mucchi successfully turned to painting. His large-format murals attracted attention beyond Italy's borders. During this time, his studio became a meeting place for the anti-fascist group Corrente, which opposed Mussolini's regime. During the Second World War, Gabriele Mucchi joined the partisans of the Garibaldi Brigade. After the war, he lived in East Berlin for many years, where he worked as a professor at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art. During this time, a friendship developed between the artist and the writer Bertolt Brecht, which was nurtured by their shared pursuit of realistic forms of expression in art. The friendship and collaboration between Mucchi and Brecht can be seen in the theater drawings that Mucchi made for Brecht's plays at the Berliner Ensemble.
Mucchi died in Milan in 2002. His grave is located in a row of artists' graves at the Berlin-Friedrichsfelde Central Cemetery.
The Genni model offered here was designed by Mucchi in 1938.
