Dokka Møbler Model 500 Low Back – Frode Braathen & Hans Brattrud. A beautiful example of early Norwegian Mid-Century design: this elegant Model 500 Low Back was designed in 1958 by Frode Braathen and Hans Brattrud for the renowned Norwegian furniture company Dokka Møbler. The design dates from a period when Scandinavian furniture design was developing into an internationally acclaimed style, with a strong focus on natural materials, craftsmanship, and refined, almost sculptural forms. Furthermore, the Model 500 was featured in the design magazine Mobilia in 1958. The low version has a particularly balanced silhouette. The slender wooden frame, the beautifully shaped armrests, and the subtly sloping back give the armchair a relaxed and inviting appearance. Despite its modest size, the design has a strong presence, where functionality and form come together in a typically Scandinavian manner. Hans Brattrud would later achieve international fame with his iconic Scandia chairs. However, this early collaboration with Frode Braathen already clearly demonstrates how refined and progressive his design approach was. Moreover, Braathen was closely associated with Dokka Møbler and played a key role in the company's development. This version features beautiful mohair upholstery in neat original condition: no holes, no tears, no stains, but a matching patina after all these years. The warm, slightly glossy character of mohair forms a beautiful combination with the natural wood and gives the armchair an extra luxurious appearance.
