Dokka Møbler Model 500 – Frode Braathen & Hans Brattrud
A particularly beautiful and rare piece of Norwegian Mid-Century design: this Model 500 was designed in 1958 by Frode Braathen and Hans Brattrud for the renowned Norwegian furniture company Dokka Møbler. The design belongs to the early period in which the characteristic, elegant design language of Scandinavian furniture design gained increasing international recognition.
Furthermore, the Model 500 was featured in the design magazine Mobilia in 1958.
What makes this armchair so special is the beautiful combination of a slender wooden frame and the distinctive, sculpturally shaped armrests. The high back, in particular, gives this model an impressive presence, while the slender lines and organic forms ensure that the armchair remains remarkably light and refined. Hans Brattrud would later achieve worldwide fame with, among other things, his iconic Scandia chairs, but in this early phase, he collaborated with Frode Braathen on various designs for Dokka Møbler. The Model 500 beautifully demonstrates just how innovative and refined Norwegian furniture design already was in the late 1950s.
This particular piece is in original, very neat condition and features authentic, particularly beautiful mohair upholstery that beautifully enhances the warm and exclusive appearance of the design.
