Friedrich Kristall “Bubble” Pop Art Vase – Blue Cased Glass, Germany, 1970s
A striking and increasingly collectible West German art glass vase by Friedrich Kristall, produced during the height of 1970s European pop-modernist design. Executed in heavy mouth-blown cased glass with vivid cobalt and turquoise blue tones over opaque white glass, the piece combines geometric clarity with playful sculptural relief.
The vase features a compact square bottle form with a short cylindrical neck and a rhythmic arrangement of raised “bubble” or lens-like domes across the surface — a design language strongly associated with the futuristic optimism and space-age aesthetics of the 1970s.
Particularly beautiful in this example is the swirling internal transition between milky turquoise and deep sapphire blue, creating a fluid optical effect that changes dramatically depending on light and viewing angle. The thick glass and rounded relief elements give the object a substantial sculptural presence far beyond its size.
Attributed to Friedrich Kristall, one of the notable West German glass manufacturers active during the postwar period and known for high-quality decorative crystal and art glass production.
