Rare pair of oxidized repoussé flowerpots or garden vases, made of yellow copper (brass), entirely in classic Art Nouveau style, decorated all around with a floral pattern. Two handles are shaped like gargoyles or griffins. France, first half of the 20th century.
This set of garden vases is completely oxidized blue-green. This type of oxidation on copper is called verdigris and is highly sought after by antique enthusiasts and designers. A beautiful and well-known example of verdigris patina is the Statue of Liberty in New York, which is made entirely of copper. This unique patina is created by chemical reactions on the copper, brass, or bronze due to environmental factors such as air, moisture, and acids.
These beautiful flowerpots are in very good antique condition. Some handles are slightly bent, another handle has been repaired at the mounting point, and there are a few small, shallow dents and scratches. However, the pair still looks fantastic. Check the photos for more details!
