Jan van Heel (1898-1990) was a Dutch artist. His work is considered part of the New Hague School. The themes for which Van Heel became known were the clown and, after a first visit to Spain, especially the Spanish soil, which presented itself as unpolished and untouched. Other colors entered his work: "saturated brown, glowing red, burning ochres, muted green." In 1956, Van Heel designed the series of postage stamps for the Melbourne Summer Olympics for the Dutch Postal Service (PTT), along with Harry Disberg and P. Wetselaar.
