Large rare table lamp designed by Floris Meydam for Glasfabriek Leerdaam. With a glass base weighing 8 kilograms with convex hollow shapes , a favorite theme of Meydam which can also be found in the candlesticks he designed for Leerdam Glass. On the glass foot an aluminum tube with the E27 fitting with original working pull switch. Dimensions: H 23 x W 11.5 x L 11.5 cm Total height incl. hood 52 x Ø 32 cm At the back/bottom a corner seems less sharp, could be a production imperfection or later damage, because it is so minimal, difficult to capture in a photo (see photo 12) About Floris Meydam ; In 1935 he starts working at the Glasfabriek in Leerdam, first as an assistant in the advertising department and then as an assistant designer. In 1947 his first designs for glass plastics and decorative glassware are exhibited in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, including a bowl designed by Meydam in 1945, entitled: "The miraculous fish catch". The poster of the museum shows a decorated vase designed by Meydam. From 1947 he designs various glass panels and windows with figurative images, such as: "De Appeloogst" (1947 – Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam) and the memorial window "Sint-Maarten" (1950 – municipality of Elst). He also designs decorated windows for the station in Leerdam and the Vondelpark pavilion, both in 1947 and later in 1950 windows for chocolate factory De Baronie and bicycle factory Union. In 1949 he succeeds Andries Copier (1901-1991) as chief designer of Glasfabriek Leerdam.<br class="r"/> Floris Meydam receives various prizes and awards during his working life: • 1952 - Good Design Award from the Museum of Modern Art (New York USA) for the bittersweet 'Granada'. • 1957 - Silver medal Triennale Milan for the 'Granada' bitter set and the 'Milano' sherry set and the 'Black Princess' service designed for the Regina pottery factory in 1956. • 1958 - Grand Prix World Exhibition Brussels for 'Experiment in laboratory glass' • 1958 - Signe d'Or Brussels for the bitter set 'Granada' and service 'Black Princess' • 1968 - Gouden Noot for the milk bottle which can also be used as a vase. • 1968 - Zilveren Noot for Coebergh liqueur bottles. • 1969 - Jaarbeurs Trophy and Press Award for 'Anjou' wine set. • 1969 - Gulden Vorm for wine set 'Anjou'. • 1970 - Drie Gouden Noten for: the stacking decanters for various types of drink; the Betuwe jam jar, which is intended for all kinds of jams; the square Becel oil bottle with the glass studs. • 1972 - Gouden Noot for the Calvé sauce bottle • 1977 - Coburger Glaspreis for cube-shaped unique items. • 1994 - Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau.
