Product description
Welcome!!! You have just looked at a rare retro black desk lamp designed by Floris H. Fiedeldij around the late 1950s when he started his Artimeta business. This desk lamp works fine. It is in reasonable vintage condition with visible signs of use. Some dents at the shade and some small ones at the base. Original wiring. Artimeta was founded in 60's design by Floris H. Fiedeldij . Artimeta produced beautiful luxury lighting and furniture. Mathieu Matégot, a French maker who also designed for Artimeta. Most of the product line was sold in Germany. Floris employed about 15 people. Artimeta was very successful at the time, and investors were interested in getting into the Artimeta business. Through banker Fockema, Fiedeldij struck a deal with Transcarbo, a subsidiary of the Oranje Nassau Mines in Heerlen. Promising at first but an unfortunate choice just a few months later. The ex-miners who were eager and positive could not handle the fine materials and screws for the Artimeta branch. Unfortunately, this caused unprofessional workmanship and production and shipping delays. Customers began to complain about the long production time and quality. In addition, Fiedeldij faced heavy bureaucracy. For example, an order of 1,000 screws had to be countersigned by ten people before the production process could proceed. Naturally, Fiedeldij complained to upper management, but he was sidelined. Later the factory moved to Heerlen and imported lamps from Germany and Italy designed by Vistosi, Venini, Stilnovo, Martinelli Luce. Fieldeldij was incredibly angry and bitter. In 1975 he stated, "It can be concluded that an Italian lamp factory was kept alive with Dutch government subsidy and that a Dutch company, which could employ at least 35 people, was grounded for mismanagement by the subsidized company in question." Unfortunately, a creative and original dream was destroyed. Later the company started on under the name Art Light.
