Welcome! You have just looked at a rare retro black desk lamp designed by Floris H. Fiedeldij approximately end fifties when he was starting up his Artimeta business. This desk light works fine. It is in fair vintage condition with visible signs of use. Some dents at the shade and some small at the foot. Original wiring. Artimeta was founded by Floris H. Fiedeldij in 1960. Artimeta produced beautiful luxurious lighting and furniture. Mathieu Matégot, a French creator designed for Artimeta as well. The majority of the product line was sold in Germany. Floris employed about 15 people. Artimeta was very successful those days and investors were interested to step into the Artimeta business. Fiedeldij closed a deal via a banker Fockema with Transcarbo, a subsidiary of the Oranje Nassau Mines in Heerlen. Promising in the beginning but a couple of months later already an unfortunate choice. The ex-miners who were eager and positive, could not handle the fine materials and screws for the Artimeta line of business. Unfortunately, this caused unprofessional craftmanship and production and shipping delays. Customers started to complain about the long production time and quality. Furthermore, Fiedeldij was confronted with a severe bureaucracy. For instance, an order of 1000 screws had to be countersigned by ten individuals before the production process could pursue. Of course, Fiedeldij complained at the upper management but he was set aside. Later the factory moved to Heerlen and imported lamps from Germany and Italy designed by Vistosi, Venini, Stilnovo, Martinelli Luce. Fieldeldij was incredible angry and bittered. In 1975 he stated: “It can be concluded that an Italian lamp factory is kept alive with Dutch government subsidy and that a Dutch company, which could employ at least 35 people, due to mismanagement has been grounded by the subsidized company in question.” Regrettably a creative and original dream was destroyed. Later the company restarted under the name Art Light.
