A rare version of the so-called "Fledermaus" sofa by Josef Hoffmann for Mundus AG. The so-called "Fledermaus" sofa was originally designed and produced in 1907 for the cabaret show "Fledermaus" in Vienna.
The first series of the Fledermaus sofa was produced by Joseph & Kohn. Mundus acquired Joseph & Kohn in 1914.
In the early 1920s, Thonet acquired Mundus, along with six other companies.
It is safe to say that our Mundus version of the Fledermaus is regarded as a founder of this legendary design.
