Before digital postcards and standardized souvenirs, people would bring back from their travels an object destined to remain on a piece of furniture for years. This small box is a beautiful example of that. Its lid features a domed cabochon offering a view of the summit of Puy de Dôme with its iconic antenna, seemingly suspended above the volcanic landscapes of Auvergne. Depending on the angle of the light, the image gains depth and evokes those memories that one used to contemplate while recounting a journey or family holiday. The box is made of wood with a deliberately scorched finish, enhanced by a gilded metal frame that highlights the central medallion. Upon opening, the light wood interior remains simple and authentic, ready to hold jewelry, medals, coins, souvenirs, or small everyday treasures. This piece is in very good condition. The wood shows only a few slight marks of time, a discreet chip in the varnish on one corner, and fine traces of use visible under certain reflections on the cabochon. The clasp and hinges are perfectly functional. Dimensions approximately 15 × 9 × 6 cm.
