“Goose” Figurine, Enameled Porcelain, Nao by Lladró, 20th Century – Spain Delicate goose-shaped figurine made of Nao porcelain by Lladró. It features an upright posture, emphasized by its long neck, and a small head with two round black eyes that appear to smile. This is a classic design issued in 1969 and retired in 2001, probably created by Fulgencio García. The soft color is characteristic of Lladró porcelain, which shines thanks to its glazed finish. The signature is featured at the bottom. NAO is a porcelain brand created by Lladró in 1968 with the aim of offering high-quality porcelain figurines at a more affordable price than the pieces in the firm’s main line. Its origin dates back to the expansion of the Lladró brothers Juan, José and Vicente, who founded their company in 1953 in Tavernes Blanques, Valencia (Spain). In 1967, the Lladró brothers acquired a small porcelain factory near Valencia and began working with the finest local artisans. This marked the birth of a new style, based on the training of their staff and the creation of pieces marketed under the name ROSAL. Themes developed that would endure throughout the years: an idyllic and romantic life, timeless in its representation. Thanks to its success, in 1975 the collection was renamed ZAPHIR, and production moved to new, larger facilities. With this change, the creations became more stylized and offered a wider variety of themes, reflecting the porcelain mastery the young artisans were perfecting. In the United States, the brand grew rapidly, consolidating Lladró's international presence. This led the brothers to search for a new brand name with which to expand into other countries. Thus was born NAO, whose name evokes the ancient sailing ships of the time of Columbus, a symbol of a journey back to the origins, filled with creativity, success, and magic.
