Coffee table, model 6272, designed by Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) and manufactured by FDB Møbler, Denmark, circa 1962.
Børge Mogensen was one of the most influential furniture designers of the Danish Modern movement. Trained under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts, he served as Head of Furniture Design at FDB (Fællesforeningen for Danmarks Brugsforeninger — the Danish Consumer Co-op) in the 1940s. There, he developed his core philosophy: quality furniture must be accessible, functional, and durable. After establishing his own studio in 1950, Mogensen continued to design for FDB, alongside other manufacturers such as Fredericia Stolefabrik.
This coffee table illustrates Mogensen's approach: simple proportions, solid construction, and a quiet elegance that allows the natural beauty of teak to speak for itself. The table features a spacious rectangular top with a lower stretcher board, resting on four straight legs connected by a sturdy H-shaped base.
