This characterful table lamp was designed by the German brand Insta Elektro and dates from the early 1970s. The D5880 model, also known as the Sensorette, is a textbook example of Space Age design: futuristic, functional, and playful. The lamp consists of a silver-colored metal sphere set in a black plastic holder with a U-shaped frame.
What makes this lamp special is the touch-control: you can switch the lamp on and off by touching the shade. The eyeball is also tiltable and rotatable, making it easy to direct the light. The combination of metal, plastic, and geometric shapes is reminiscent of designs by Gino Sarfatti for Arteluce, but with a unique German twist.
The lamp is still in good vintage condition with a few minor scratches on the top of the sphere.
