He is primarily known for his own impressionistic work and his highly detailed, hand-painted copies of works by Vincent van Gogh. He studied art at the St. Joost Academy in Breda. Primarily focused on Impressionism, with particular attention to detail, light, color composition, and the wet-on-wet technique. Specialized in the painting technique of Vincent van Gogh.
In 1990, the Van Gogh Project created a series of detailed replicas of Van Gogh's masterpieces, almost all of which were sold at an exhibition to art lovers from the Netherlands, the USA, Italy, and France. The Van Gogh replicas are hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproductions known for their extreme precision and technical perfection. He painted a limited collection of 23 masterpieces around the year 1989. Since 1990, he has deliberately never made another one, as it was a one-off project. He used his own professional close-up photography of originals in the Van Gogh Museum to meticulously study brushstrokes and color tones. He also writes and publishes about the life and work of Vincent.
His rare handmade replicas are highly sought after by international collectors who wish to bring the 'museum experience' into their homes. A number of his high-quality reproductions occasionally appear in exclusive sales, including through specialized channels. Due to their rarity and craftsmanship, they come with a serious price tag. His hand-painted Van Gogh replicas have become rare museum pieces.
Interviews have revealed that his masterpieces from this series changed hands for high sums. This is significantly higher than regular, more modern reproductions (which often cost around €600) due to their historical value and the extreme technical precision applied at the time.
