Product description
Exceptional Vintage Bidriware Nandi – Handmade India – Silver Inlay An impressive vintage Nandi Bull, crafted using the traditional Indian Bidriware technique. Nandi, also known as Basava, is the sacred bull and the vahana (the traditional mount and companion) of the Hindu god Shiva. This is a particularly decorative and heavy piece, featuring a beautiful deep black surface and very refined silver-colored inlay. The decoration consists of elaborate geometric and traditional patterns applied around the body, neck, and head. The combination of the dark metal and the light inlay creates a particularly strong and stylish contrast. Traditional Indian Craftsmanship Bidriware is an ancient form of metalworking from Bidar, Karnataka in South India. The technique has a history dating back to the period of the Bahmani Sultanate. The body is traditionally cast from a zinc-copper alloy. Subsequently, the decorative patterns are applied by hand and finished with silver inlay. The characteristic dark surface is created by a traditional oxidation process, giving the metal its distinctive deep black, almost graphic appearance. The many hand-applied patterns are visible from every angle, making the statue not only a religious object but also a fine example of traditional Indian craftsmanship. A Powerful Object For A Special Interior Nandi symbolizes strength, loyalty, dedication, and tranquility, among other things. Due to its substantial weight, distinctive shape, and graphic decoration, this is an object with a strong presence. Beautiful as a standalone statement piece on a sideboard, side table, or console, but also highly suitable for an eclectic, Japandi, Mid-Century, bohemian, or international interior. For lovers of Asian art, ethnographic objects, and traditional craftsmanship, this is a particularly decorative piece. An authentic-looking vintage object with a lot of character, in which the centuries-old craft of Bidriware is beautifully combined with a timeless sculptural form.
